In a significant leadership change, Toni Seymour has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of Bahamas Power and Light (BPL), replacing Shevonn Cambridge, who has stepped down after two years in the role.
The announcement was made on Monday in a memo sent to staff by the Board of Directors.
While the memo did not specify the reasons for Cambridge's departure, it comes as the utility company undergoes major reforms aimed at improving its operations, affordability and service delivery.
The appointment of Seymour, who becomes the first woman to lead BPL, comes at a critical time as the government enters into a 25-year contract with Pike, facilitated through Island Grid Solutions, to upgrade and manage the power network.
The government has reiterated its commitment to modernizing the energy sector while the reducing the cost of electricity for consumers.
