U. S. doctors performed emergency surgery on convicted drug kingpin Samuel “Ninety” Knowles over the weekend after he was rushed to a Georgia hospital.
Knowles, who is currently serving a decades-long prison sentence at a facility in McRae, Georgia, had a blood clot in his leg, according to well-placed sources.
He remains in hospital so that medical professionals can closely monitor him.
Knowles was extradited to the United States in August 2006 after spending six years behind bars at Her Majesty’s Prisons in Fox Hill.
In 2008, he was sentenced to 35 years in prison by a U.S. federal court judge after being convicted of drug smuggling.
He was also ordered to forfeit nearly $14 million in illegal proceeds for smuggling thousands of kilos of cocaine to the United States in 1995 and 1996.
In 2010, the US Appeals Court upheld his conviction and sentence.
