Remembering Rev Lloyd Smith one year after his passing

July 22 marks a solemn day for the religious community as it commemorates the first anniversary of the passing of Rev. Dr. Lloyd Smith, a respected figure in the nation's religious and business sectors.

Rev. Smith was 74 when he died unexpectedly last summer while preparing to deliver a eulogy at Mount Horeb Baptist Church.

Rev. Smith, known for his dedication and strong leadership, served as the President of the Bahamas National Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention (BNBMEC) from 2018 until his passing.

His influence extended far beyond his presidency, encompassing a distinguished career as the senior pastor of Mount Horeb Baptist Church for over two decades.

His contributions to The Bahamas extended beyond his service to the wider church community.

Beyond his pastoral duties, he was a prominent businessman, owning Holiday Industrial Builders, a construction firm that not only erected buildings but also fostered connections and economic opportunities throughout the Bahamas.

The Ministry of National Security building is one of the company’s more notable projects.

Smith’s commitment to community development has set a precedent for future leaders.

“His roles were many – a pastor, a president, a contractor, a mentor – but his legacy is singular: he made a significant difference,” Prime Minister Philip Davis remarked at the time of his death.

He added, “His legacy will continue to inspire.”
