In a recent development, the Ministry of Labour and the Public Service has issued a stern warning regarding a deceptive online scam aimed at public servants. The scam involves a fraudulent message circulating on social media, falsely claiming to originate from the "Ministry of Labour and Employment."
According to the Ministry's statement, the misleading message prompts public servants who have been employed between 1990 and 2024 to click on a provided link in order to purportedly receive owed funds. However, Minister of Labour and the Public Service, Pia Glover-Rolle, clarified that the Ministry did not issue such a message, asserting it was likely created with malicious intent.
"We would like to advise the public that this message was not sent out by the Ministry of Labour and the Public Service and is very likely to have been created with mischievous and/or malicious intent," stated Minister Glover-Rolle.
The Minister emphasized the importance of caution, urging individuals to refrain from clicking on the suspicious link or submitting any personal information through it. Instead, she advised the public to report the message on the social media platform where it was encountered to prevent further dissemination of the potentially harmful link.
"In instances where you suspect that your device, personal information, or financial information may have been compromised, we advise you to take immediate corrective action and contact the appropriate authorities," urged Minister Glover-Rolle.
Highlighting the prevalence of online scams, Minister Glover-Rolle urged the public to remain vigilant and seek information through official channels to avoid falling victim to similar fraudulent schemes.
"As always, we will continue to take measures to prevent the spread of misinformation, safeguard the public, and maintain the integrity of our communication channels," assured Minister Glover-Rolle.
