Vendors selling produce on Potter’s Cay have been granted permission to sell produce to essential workers during a four-hour period on Saturday.
According to the latest emergency orders, “Vendors situate at Potters Cay selling produce may open only to essential workers on Saturday the 15th of August, 2020 between the hours of 8am and 12pm .”
Don’t get too excited though. This does not apply to restaurant owners selling native dishes and drinks on Potter’s Cay.
It is unclear whether vendors had sufficient notice from the government to prepare their stalls to sell produce tomorrow. The order was released after 8pm Friday.
It comes weeks after the Competent Authority shut down Arawak Cay and Potter’s Cay without notice last month.
Thousands of dollars worth of dead conch was pulled from the water after the businesses were ordered to close with no warning.
Vendors have been begging and pleading for an audience with the prime minister to discuss what additional safety protocols they can put in place to be allowed to reopen and make a living. However, their letters have gone unanswered.
Arawak Cay and Potters Cay vendors were one of the last groups of businesses to reopen after the first wave of the coronavirus and were the first businesses to be shut down at the beginning of the second wave.
