The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) has issued a strong rebuttal to former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis following his recent comments regarding the U.S. government's handling of indictments against three Bahamian law enforcement officers.
Dr. Minnis suggested that the U.S. failed to inform Prime Minister Philip Davis in advance of the indictments as a sign of distrust in the current administration.
The PLP responded by condemning Dr. Minnis’ statement as "illogical" and "baseless," pointing out that the operation leading to the indictments began during Minnis’ own tenure as Prime Minister.
The statement reads: “The former Prime Minister, Hubert Minnis, is condemned by his own illogical logic. He claims that because the U.S. did not warn Prime Minister Davis in advance of the recent indictments, this demonstrates a lack of trust in the current government. He clearly doesn’t know what he's talking about.
He bases this faulty deduction on the fact that the Americans warned him when he was Prime Minister. But the indictment clearly states that the operation, run by the Americans without the knowledge of Bahamian officials, began in May 2021, while Dr. Minnis was still in office. The U.S. government has stated they did not inform the Bahamian government at that time.
By Dr. Minnis’ own logic, does this mean the Americans did not trust him either?”
The PLP said it is apparent that Dr. Minnis, “politically punch-drunk after his defeat by Michael Pintard at the last FNM convention”, is desperately trying to remain relevant. But he is not.
The party said Minnis is so irrelevant that his own party did not inform him of their decision to break parliamentary rules and throw the House mace out the window.
The PLP underscored its confidence in the current administration’s relationship with the U.S. government, affirming that "the U.S. government has consistently expressed its trust in the partnership with the government of Prime Minister Davis."
