Prime Minister Philip Davis has strongly responded to comments made by Opposition Leader Michael Pintard following the swearing-in of Anthony Rolle as Deputy Commissioner of Police earlier today.
In a statement released shortly after the ceremony at Government House, Davis expressed disappointment over Pintard’s remarks, labeling them as baseless and counterproductive.
“I was disappointed, though not terribly surprised, to learn that the Leader of the Opposition has chosen to be in full attack mode rather than playing a more constructive role,” said Prime Minister Davis. “His comments regarding the appointment of a Deputy Commissioner of Police are unfounded and unhelpful.”
Davis praised Rolle for his decades of service to the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF), highlighting his significant contributions to the Urban Renewal Program, which has been instrumental in fostering stronger relationships between law enforcement and communities across The Bahamas.
“Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Rolle is a leader who has dedicated decades of service to protecting our communities, often at great personal sacrifice,” said the Prime Minister. “His instrumental role in the Urban Renewal Program has been transformative, fostering safer neighborhoods and stronger relationships between law enforcement and the Bahamian people.”
The Prime Minister expressed confidence in the new leadership of the RBPF, emphasizing the importance of unity and support for efforts to tackle pressing issues such as gang violence and disorder.
“I am confident that the Bahamian people are rooting for the RBPF’s new leadership team, and praying that they will find only success in their efforts to change and reform the force, to fight gangs, violence, and disorder, and to restore trust in our communities,” Davis stated.
The Prime Minister concluded by urging the Opposition Leader to adopt a more positive approach.
His comments come as the government aims to address rising crime concerns with a renewed commitment to law enforcement reform under the new leadership of the RBPF.
