The Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) has announced it is actively implementing contingency measures in response to a potential industrial action set to occur on Monday, following a call from the Trade Union Congress (TUC) President Obie Ferguson who urged his members to stay home on both Monday and Tuesday, citing unresolved labor issues that have yet to be addressed by the government.
The anticipated strike action is expected to affect operations across several PHA facilities, potentially disrupting services at hospitals and clinics nationwide.
In a statement released today, the PHA reassured the public that essential care for patients requiring urgent and acute treatment would remain a top priority.
"Patient care and safety remain our highest priority," the PHA said in the statement. "We have activated our contingency plans to ensure that critical services continue to be provided to those in need. However, patients with non-urgent outpatient clinic appointments may experience rescheduling as healthcare personnel may need to be reassigned to emergency and inpatient care."
The PHA emphasized that those affected by any changes to appointments will be contacted directly by their respective clinics to reschedule. Non-urgent services may be impacted by staffing shortages, and patients are advised to stay in contact with their healthcare providers for updates.
