Mother and Daughter from Andros arraigned on gun, drugs charges

A mother and daughter duo from Andros were arraigned in the Magistrates Court today on charges relating to possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply.


The accused individuals are 61-year-old Pollyann Newton and her daughter, 26-year-old Gladys Newton, who are residents of Eleanor Way, San Andros.


According to preliminary reports, on Wednesday, June 5th, officers from the Andros Police Division executed a search warrant at the home of the suspects.


During the search, authorities discovered a firearm with ammunition and two kilos of suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value of $40,000.


During today's court proceedings, Gladys Newton pleaded guilty to the charges brought against her.


As a result, she received a sentence of 3 years for the gun charge, 2 years for the ammunition charge, and a fine of $36,000 for the drug possession charge. The sentences for the firearm and ammunition charges will run concurrently.


Additionally, failure to pay the fine will result in an additional 2 years of imprisonment.


However, her mother, Pollyann Newton, had her charges dropped by the court.
