Michael Johnson returns to court

A senior policeman who stepped down in the midst of a corruption probe appeared in court on Friday as a witness for the prosecution.

Former Chief Superintendent Michael Johnson, who is facing criminal charges of his own, was called to testify in a murder case.

Johnson resigned in December, weeks before he was hauled before the court to face charges of conspiracy to commit bribery, stealing, and receiving and accessory after the fact. He is free on $20,000 bail.

The charges stem from a November 2023 heist in which $1.475m was stolen from an unattended vehicle owned by ICS Armored Services.

While heading the Criminal Investigation Department, Johnson was accused of stealing $90,000 from some of the recovered money. He is also accused of stealing the stolen property.

He is accused of assisting the suspected mastermind of the theft Michael Fox Jr from avoiding due process and conspiring to solicit a bribe from Fox.

The scandal came to light after a series of secretly recorded conversations allegedly between Fox, his attorney Bjorn Ferguson, and Fox were leaked on social media last July.
