Four more policemen are facing charges in the fallout from a probe into corruption surrounding the investigation of a $1.475 million heist.
Corporal Chavez Sawyer, Constable Benson Miller, Sergeant Nelson Miller and Sergeant Deangelo Rolle are charged with attempted extortion.
It is alleged that on November 3, 2023, the men demanded money from Akeil Holmes, a man who was allegedly found with some of the stolen money.
Earlier this month, former CID head Chief Superintendent Michael Johnson was accused of stealing $90,000 from Holmes, while Rolle was charged with abetting the theft.
Johnson was also accused of helping the alleged mastermind behind the heist, Michael Fox Jr, to avoid due process. Fox’s lawyer, Bjorn Ferguson, was also charged.
The four officers denied the allegations at their arraignment before Assistant Chief Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux.
They were each granted $8,000 bail and the matter was adjourned to April 7 to 11 for trial.
