The Free National Movement (FNM) has issued a statement addressing the departure of Central Grand Bahama Member of Parliament, Iram Lewis, who announced that he is withdrawing from the party to join the Coalition of Independents.

In a statement released today, the FNM revealed that the Constituency Association for Central Grand Bahama had recently expressed opposition to Lewis receiving another nomination from the party for the upcoming election.

The party also disclosed that the Executive Committee had raised concerns over Lewis's actions in the past.

“On more than one occasion, the Executive Committee of the Party has called Mr. Lewis’s behavior into question for certain actions displayed. In addition, the Constituency Association recently wrote to the Party requesting that Mr. Lewis not be renominated as the Party’s standard bearer in the next election for reasons stated by them,” the statement read.

The FNM said it is now working with the Constituency Association and other stakeholders to identify a suitable replacement candidate for the Central Grand Bahama seat, a constituency the party has held for seven consecutive terms.

“The Party is moving, in consultation with the Constituency Association and others, to identify a replacement candidate for the Central Grand Bahama Constituency, which it has held for the past seven consecutive terms. Meanwhile, the party is preparing itself to retain the Central Grand Bahama seat.”
