The Way Forward Valley Boys has ordered the Brian Adderley-led World Famous Valley Boys to cease-and-desist using the "Valley Boys" name following a recent court ruling.
Trevor Davis, who is chairman of the Way Forward Valley Boys, wasted no time in asserting his group's legal standing, warning that any entity, including the Junkanoo Corporation of New Providence or any other organization, could face legal consequences if they do business with or entertain the World Famous Valley Boys under the disputed name.
The dispute, which has been brewing for over a year, centers around the use of the iconic name “Valley Boys,” a renowned Junkanoo group.
Supreme Court Justice Darron Ellis lifted an injunction that had previously blocked the World Famous Valley Boys from being struck from the register of nonprofit organizations.
This ruling, according to the Way Forward Valley Boys group, is a decisive legal victory, confirming their right to claim ownership of the “Valley Boys” name.
However, the World Famous Valley Boys maintains that the ruling does not require them to change their name.
The ongoing legal battle has been marked by confusion and a bitter split between the two factions, which broke apart over disagreements about the leadership and organizational structure of the group.
While Adderley has long been at the helm of the Valley Boys, Davis and his faction have argued that the group lacked a constitution or clear guidelines for selecting leadership, ultimately leading to their breakaway.
