One of 135 Mexican workers brought in on work permits this month to work on the Baker’s Bay project in Abaco has tested positive for Covid-19 along with a Bahamian worker who is from Freeport.
The Gallery is on the ground getting information on whether the other Mexican and Bahamian workers are in quarantine to contain the spread of the virus on that island.
Questions were raised about whether the Mexican workers presented negative covid tests before being allowed to enter the country on a Bahamasair jet. When first asked, health officials seemed unsure whether the Mexicans had arrived and said they had not received negative test results from them. After a night of scrambling, the Ministry of Health said the next day it did receive the test results.
The coronavirus is rapidly making its way around the islands and cays of The Bahamas. COVID-19 hit Cat Island yesterday. Now it has spread to Abaco.
