A contractor at Bahamas Power and Light's Clifton Pier Power Station has tested positive for COVID-19 and is being monitored at the government quarantine facility. The man's colleagues are also in quarantine.
According to a memo to staff, dated August 11, 2020, CEO Whitney Heastie said "We can confirm that on Monday, August 10, 2020, we had a report of one confirmed positive case of COVID-19 involving a Contractor at the CPPS facility."
"Immediately following notification of the positive case, we activated our response plan and began working with the Ministry of Health to identify persons that would have been in close contact with the individual. Additionally, the CPPS facilities visited by the positive individual were cleaned and sanitized."
Heastie said all employees identified as close contacts to the contractor were asked to quarantine and get tested for coronavirus.
BPL is the latest government entity to be directly impacted by COVID-19. The Office of the Prime Minister was shut down today over possible exposure to the virus and the National Insurance Board's Freeport office was closed yesterday after an employee tested positive.
