Bahamasair flights severely impacted by staff sick-out

Bahamasair’s operations have been severely impacted during the busy holiday season after 75 percent of its flight attendants called in sick, forcing the airline to reduce its flight schedule.

Tracy Cooper, the airline’s Managing Director, confirmed that 12 out of the airline’s 16 flight attendants failed to report for duty today. The sickout has led to delays and cancellations.

According to Cooper, the sickout stems from an ongoing dispute between Bahamasair executive management and the Airport Airline and Allied Workers Union (AAAWU) over the terms of their industrial agreement.

Cooper denounced the action, calling it an “illegal action” by the union. He expressed frustration at the timing, especially during the critical holiday travel period when demand for flights is high.

Management has demanded that all flight attendants return to work, asserting that the sickout is a violation of the union’s contract.

Passengers with affected flights will be notified of the changes.
